This site was a very narrow side yard of an existing double lot the Owner broke off for individual development. Dramatically, the existing site sloped from front to back up to an elevation of twenty five feet above the sidewalk, necessitating a below grade reinforced concrete garage level, with the two main living units above, accessed by a stair running the side length of the building. Helicon worked closely with neighborhood review groups and the Boston Redevelopment Authority on the front façade recalling the local typical elements of row housing; bay, cornice and masonry base—all reinterpreted in a contemporary manner.
