Available building parcels in East Boston are in general very small, and compliance with zoning is very demanding. At Horace Street, a very tight 1000 SF parcel was empty, and a single-family residence desired with parking out front. Only 16 feet wide, the house uses vernacular clapboard siding and white trim which acknowledges the exiting neighborhood fabric, but in a distinctly modern way. Walk-out balconies were provided for all three bedrooms, with the main deck for the master bedroom unusually facing the street because of access to light. A full frame punched opening in the deck wall preserves the look of the façade, but allows a long view to Boston’s Logan Airport beyond on the Boston Harbor.
